When people ask us how we got started doing this ministry one of their main questions is what kind of training do we have (as in college degrees, certificates, etc.). We say "none". We felt the Lord pressing us to do this, so we did.
If you look at the men that Jesus asked to follow Him, He didn't ask for resumes first. None of these men knew how to minister to people. None of them really knew what it took to love on people and to help them begin a relationship with God. They were fishermen, tax collectors, doctors, and tent makers. None of them had degrees in pastoral counseling, or child psychology. They were truly NOT experts in the field in which Jesus had asked them to go. They stepped out on faith and followed Jesus' lead.
Stepping out in faith is simply what we have done. We felt like we were suppose to serve in full time ministry. Nothing within the four walls of the church really fit the bill for us. So we started praying. God brought two passions of ours together and showed us what He wanted us to do with it. So we stepped forward. One step at a time. It has been a long but short journey to were we are today. Looking back I think "Wow, it has only been 4 years since we started!" But then I think about all of the lessons, pit falls and victories that have taken place. All of those events is what makes it seem like it has been longer than 4 years.
People tell us often how inspirational our faith is and how watching us has helped them grow in their walk with Christ. I will be honest, that makes me feel a little uncomfortable because we aren't perfect. I know what has taken place behind closed doors during prayer time and talks that Bryan and I have shared. It hasn't been pretty and it hasn't been easy either. Getting your flesh to step aside in order to allow the Spirit to work is a hard thing to accomplish, sometimes it can be an hourly battle. On the other hand though, I am thankful that people can look at us and our circumstances and see what God has done for us and this ministry. He can and WILL do it for others.
There is nothing special about us.....we just stepped out in faith.
